Power use escalates as weather warms [Video]

Spring has hit hard with unusually warm weather, and the summer promises to continue this trend. As the days become hotter, power use will escalate in an attempt to keep personnel and machines cool.

During the summer, cooling can account for 50 percent of a business’s electricity bill. Peak weather conditions have pushed peak usage expectations in Texas to 73,000 megawatts. This is important as the state’s grid is estimated to generate nearly 82,000 megawatts.

Transmission lines have a limited capacity that goes down during hot weather. If lines start to droop, they can be shorted out through contact with trees. As power demand escalates and weather warms, organizations must take action to prevent outages like installing an uninterruptible power supply system.
